Silent Day

A sonnet.

And thus begins another day silent
where our words and deeds are done and not said
where in our hearts we must remain quiet
lest our pains and sorrows should wake the dead

Our shadows fall dark in the morning sun
silently follows our every step
questioning victories that we have won
and for the things long lost that we have wept
but if our words be honest and our deeds be true
our victories be bold and be brave
with courage we held to all that we knew
all these shadows would haunt only our grave

shadows of the grave be banished away
shout out say I and end this silent day
